What are Squirrels?
Squirrels is the newest and youngest section in Scouts, designed especially for 4 to 6 year olds. It’s a welcoming space where children take their first steps into Scouting through play, creativity, and making new friends.
Sessions are one hour long and packed with fun, age-appropriate activities that help develop social skills, confidence, and curiosity about the world around them.

What do Squirrels do?
Every session is built around play-based learning. Our Squirrels enjoy a wide variety of activities including:
- Stories, songs, and games
- Arts and crafts projects
- Simple outdoor activities and nature exploration
- Learning to share, take turns, and work together
- Themed sessions around topics like animals, space, and seasons
Everything is designed to be fun first, with gentle learning woven in. There’s no pressure. just a safe space to explore and grow.

A typical term
Each term follows a programme theme with a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions. Squirrels might spend one week learning about minibeasts, the next doing a craft project, and then head outside for a nature walk. Every term includes opportunities to work towards badges and awards.
