About Us

Who we are

The 44th Croydon is an Air Scout Group based at The Salvation Army hall on High Street in Thornton Heath. We’ve been providing young people in our community with skills, adventures, and friendships for generations.

As part of the Croydon Scouting District, our members benefit from a wide range of district events, access to campsites like Bears Wood and Pinewood Scout Centre, and a supportive network of fellow Scout Groups across the borough.

What makes us different: Air Scouts

The 44th Croydon holds an official Air Activities designation from The Scout Association. This means that alongside the full Scouting programme of camping, hiking, and community service, our members get to explore the world of aviation.

Our Air Scouts activities include:

  • Model aircraft building and flying
  • Learning the principles of flight and navigation
  • Visits to airfields, aviation museums, and flight simulators
  • Working towards the Air Activities badges at every level
  • Air rifle shooting

The Air Scouts specialism is particularly prominent in our Scout Troop (10½–14), but aviation themes run through all our sections in age-appropriate ways.

Our sections

We run four sections covering ages 4 to 14. Each offers a programme tailored to the age group, with a mix of games, skills, outdoor activities, and badge work.
